Gunfight’s End

The Gunfighter’s hand rests easily by
the grip, in a heartbeat comes the draw
and the jolt of the shot,
either life taken or death given.
—–

Resting,
encased in metal,
waiting for the time,
the movement, the strike,
the explosive release,
the impact,
the final
purpose,
endings.

—–
Pain,
sudden,
numbing,
never expected,
suddenly falling,
breath bubbles,
sharpens,
shallows,
slows,
last gasps
of breath,
a life
ending.
