Three Rules for the Soulsick and Heartbroken

When
the sickness comes,
it seeps in
through the rents
in your soul,
let it in,
embrace it
like an old friend,
wallow in it
for a while.

Then
comes the moment
to seek the cure,
to burn it out,
to leave it behind,
for its friendship
is a false thing,
and it seeks to
drown you
slowly in time.

When
the bitterness
seeps into
the Broken Heart,
stave it off,
for the balm
to your pain
is the road to
callousness,
it is much too high
a price.

Then
comes the soothing
balm of time,
the slow scarring
of the wounds
in your heart,
knitting it
back into
a readiness
for love.
